3 Most Important Back-to-School Purchases

Choosing the three most important back-to-school items for parents can vary depending on the child's age and the specific school requirements. Still, generally, the following items are crucial for a successful start to the school year:

1. School Supplies: Essential school supplies like notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, binders, folders, rulers, and other stationery items are vital for a productive learning experience. These supplies enable students to take notes, complete assignments, and stay organized throughout the school year. Check with your child's school to get a specific list. Many kids come to school on the first day with their supplies all ready to go. Unfortunately, some do not. Please plan for your child to feel prepared on the first day of school with all the supplies the teacher has suggested they bring. Also, be ready to check in with your child later in the school year. Remember, school supplies may need to be replaced during the year as they get lost, used up, or worn out. ALSO: Please monitor what your child has in their supply boxes and backpacks. I've seen many unneeded items at school (toys. magnets, stickers, etc.) only distract my students. Those personal belongings should be left at home.

2. Backpack: A sturdy and well-designed backpack is essential for carrying books, notebooks, and other school supplies. Look for a backpack with comfortable straps and ample storage space to help your child safely take their belongings. Many kids are carrying a heavy load to and from school. Backpacks with wheels can be an excellent option for those children. Keep receipts and exchange the backpack you buy after the first week f school if it needs to be upsized or is not serving your child's needs.

3. Clothing and Footwear: Appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear are essential for a child's comfort and confidence at school. Ensure your child has a selection of outfits suitable for school, along with weather-appropriate outerwear and comfortable shoes that can withstand the demands of the school day. Remember that temperatures will be soaring in many parts of the US during the first several weeks of school, and these warm days will affect the comfort and safety of children at school.

While these three items are essential, it's also important to consider other factors such as lunchboxes, water bottles, technology (such as laptops or tablets, depending on the age), and any specialized items required by the school or specific classes. Open communication with teachers and understanding your child's unique needs can contribute significantly to a successful back-to-school experience.
